I don't have a lot of opinions about Wikileaks. But I do know that it would be wrong to ban a website.
We continuously throw critique at China for doing just that. Just because the government doesn't like something doesn't mean it has the right to shut it down. Wikileaks is not organizing any crime to harm people. They are not actively promoting hate speech.
They do not have forums discussing the best way to construct an IED. They are not discussing wiping out entire ethnicities or creeds.
It is only information. Wikileaks functions only as a support. Period.
Again, I don't have a lot of opinions. But I do know this. The government serves me. I elect the officials. If we want to be better than other countries, we ought to have a fair degree of transparency in government, much more than there is. Will there be secrets? yes.
Can you punish the people that leak them? Maybe.
Firstly, Assange isn't an American citizen. So we can't hang the guy for treason. Sorry Palin!
Secondly, I'm debating whether the government gets to make the call on whether this is right or wrong. Of course the government is going to say it's wrong. But it's us that get to decide the worth and value of Wikileaks. It's happened. Period. We get a chance to judge our government with less ambiguity than before. The people have the power.
For some reason, the right has an issue with this?!
Of course, because behind the scenes, they're probably the most nefarious. But that's just my opinion.
