BC Calc, Music Theory, and Never Doing THAT Again

So, music first, other stuff later. Music..... yeah... I've been doing a lot of not listening to it. I DO like that American Boys song, kinda rappish, hiphopish. Definitely not my genre, obviously, but I do enjoy it. I 'illegally' downloaded some jazz the other night, all centered around Miles Davis. I really like his no-vibrato tone. Very clear, crisp, and to the point, yet very sensational and expressive.

Along the lines of more modern music, the Hives are a pretty good band with a very good, as my friend said, Good song to Bad song ratio. That's about all I have

I've been doing more studying music lately, learning a lot about major and minor chords, sequences, and trying to ear train my ear with intervals. It's really cool, and when I sit down at my keyboard I'm figuring out how to do more things, and when I read or play music I'm able to understand more things. Very cool. Music Theory is an awesome class.

I've been pretty steady with my BC Calc since I got it. I have all of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters to do 5 modules, each 5 lessons. Yeah, 25 lessons for 3 quarters. All very cool. The packet said I should be spending 6-8 hours on each lesson, but I'm pretty sure I flew through this last one at like, 2 1/2 hours.

So last time I worked - forever and a half ago, we were doing, literally nothing, so me and my Soop (supervisor) went out back to hang out and she offered me a menthol. Usually I go along the lines that you gotta try something at least once. So I had one, and NEVER AGAIN. Damn, so I've had a few cigars, but this thing literally, literally, tasted like ass. I could feel the carcinogens taking hold in my little lung tubules. Ech, and cigars aren't even that cool. Fuck smoking.

That's about all. Duckie and I celebrated our 1 year in Madeline Island - very cool. I don't know, life. I'll have senior pictures soon.

On the music end of things? Let's take a look........


I keep dated playlists to see what I was just into on certain days. The most current one was Labor Day. One song - "I'll Be There For You", by the Rembrants. You know, the theme song from Friends. Love it.

But the album/artist I've really been into lately is Mika. Not only is he gorgeous, his songs are great too. The album he has out right now is Life In Cartoon Motion. So many good songs. My favorite - 'Any Other World'. Has such great lyrics and incorporates violins very well. I say great lyrics, especially because they sort of go away from his typical sort of song, which are very catchy, whereas 'Any Other World' is far more focused on material, theme, and overall sound instead of popularity, I think. Other good tracks:

• Lollipop. Discusses living your life up before you go get involved. You know, enjoy being single.
• Big Girls. Perfect in a time when there's a few people out there trying to get girls to feel better about their self-image. I'm sure you've all seen the Dove commercials with girls who did that workshop. Whatever, this is far greater for the mass audiences. Dove's about PR. Mika's about the real thing. Hoops.
• Love Today. Just awesome
• Billy Brown. This song is NOT about a gay man. It's about sexuality is far more than just between the bounds of set sexualities, like gay, straight, bi, whatever. It's shows how everything is so much more complex than that. That, and sometimes we just can't figure our shit out.
• Grace Kelly. A single. A song to get Mika out there. I love the dialogue, just cool. That's all, cool.

What else, you ask? I like Panic! at the Disco's new album. It's a lot less teenage angst and emo and whatever, and more just good music and lyrics. I am lovin' The Green Gentlemen and When The Day Met The Night. I'm a total sucker.

So I'm taking Music Theory right now, learning all about the Circle of Fifths and how to construct all these scales, it's pretty cool stuff.

Things with Cookie are shaky, as usual. I'm frustrated with life. Usual, usual. The lunch line isn't as cool without Lemons there anymore.
